With last weekend off from any football for Weston Favell and the International inter-luuuulllll! Everyone this week seemed pretty up for playing some football! The training session that Matt had carried out last week was received very well by those that turned up and the new formation was actually starting to look like a well crafted plan. From memory WFFC have never played Royals Reserves….or if we have then it was a bloody long time ago, there form is on a par with ours so Matt was really looking for some points to add to the only three that sit there so lonesome on the board.

Matt’s starting line-up was: Dave, Ash, Steve, Matt, Lewis, Karl, Abass, Joe, Chris, Otis and Chrouchie. Matt chosen and all new shiny formation was 4,2,3,1

Overall looking at the full 90 minutes I would say that the new system is working, nothing rarely works perfectly from the get go and it is certainly a work in progress as everyone gets used to the new system. The biggest positive to take from the last few weeks is that we are no longer leaking so many goals at the back, that is of course to NOT blame the defenders for our terrible goal difference but we are now working as a team defensive wise far better.

We are now playing the ball out of defence with a purpose and not panicing to clear our lines, many times during the match we played the ball from defence to either midfield or attack very well and created chances from that – something that has been lacking since the beginning of the season.

Royals first goal was pretty untidy for me, and their second goal was half fluke and half unsavable…..the scorer pretended like he meant it but in reality if you gave him 1000 exact more chances it would be 1 goal with a 1000 misses. Chrouchies equliser was a flick on through with a sliding left foot goal….

There were some promising signs throughout the game for Favell, more chances were created and perhaps with a little bit more effort and some tweaking we can actually start to change our luck for the remaining games of the season. And speaking of luck, everyone is certainly hoping that at some point we get a decent referee for a fixture………Mr Franco today was absolutly shocking.

fouls, handballs, pushing…all missed or gone against us…..when will this end? We just dont know.

So a disapointing 2-1 loss but WFFC have the opportunity to get one back over Royals next Sunday as we meet again in a Plester Shield fixture!

Some good performences from a few of the Favell lads…..Dave was looking to make ammends from 2 weeks back and made a handful of decent stops, Lewis has taken his chances well and is looking solid as left-back, Jonesy this week was awersome as ever with those daintly little twinkle toes!
