WFFC v St Margarates A match report

15

This week was an ‘opportunity’ to progress in a cup competition, the ironic quotation marks you see on the word opportunity are there as WFFC were drawn against a team from 2 divisions higher….lady luck really isn’t shining on WFFC this season at all.

The only silver lining to this fixture was that we were able to play it at Ecton Brook our home ground which is probably the flatest pitch owned by the council in Northampton. Despite the poor form of WFFC this season the weekly turnout is  still very good, a seasoned vetaren of football Gary mentioned today that it is good to see that we ARE still turning up as it would be very easy to stay away. WFFC (or as it was known then ‘Riverside) was started for a reason, this season is the 10th season the club has been going and a lot of hard work and effort has gone into it, so it’s only fitting that the remainder of this season will follow suit….more hard work from every player is going to be required to see us come out with some pride.

The fixture against this team was always going to be hard, the Maggie’s are from a higher division and have a very large squad. They also have the opportunity to play first team players during cup fixtures. The one thing that WFFC could do was battle…and battle we did.

I can’t help but think the game could of potentially gone a different way if we had taken our chances in the first 10 minutes….the through balls from Boyce and Crouched  combined with the pace of Chris Norman was causing problems for their defence. Fate however decided that it was not meant to be….over the 90 minutes they managed to score 5 goals……with only one of the really being of any quality.

Next week is a league game and we need to apply the same effort, determination and battle to the fixture….if we do then we have every chance of taking 3 points…hopefully that combined with player returning from injury and we can start to turn a corner.

Please remember that any players that still owe money need to get it sorted asap, there are a few of you that still owe signing on fee’s. Matt will be texting any players in the week with how much you owe..please ensure that you bring your money this coming Sunday.

Matt picked out Karl & James as joint MOM (Man Of the Match) both players were consistent throughout the game, battled hard and generally did their best. Well done lads.

More to come on this weeks coming fixture….
